We have a few intake sessions to see how motivated you are and, together, we look at whether the program is a match for you.
If it is, you enter the first phase of BTC —
the Intensive Personal Development phase.
This takes three weeks to complete.

We call it "intensive" because ... it's really intense.

We do not apologize for this. We understand that living a gang lifestyle is very intense and we want to mirror that, simultaneously challenging you to develop your skills and your abilities in a different way.

Our approach involves:
  • education and the development of relevant life-skills — like learning how to use your head to prevent violence, rather than relying on your fists, a knife or a gun to make your point;
  • practicing and applying these skills through role-playing, encounter sessions, group discussion, and some one-to-one;
  • learning to use problem-solving techniques that work in your current reality; and
  • connecting with people who have been there and done what you are trying to do.

Every participant has different needs, capabilities and attitudes.
You always have choices along the way.

  • you live in Rexdale or Scarborough
  • you aren't working full time or enrolled in a job-training program
  • you are 15 - 26 years old (male or female)
  • you've been involved in gangs, or you stll are and you want to change that
  • you can handle cooperative group rules and
  • you can commit to three weeks of intense training.

BTC helps each participant find the solution that's right for him or her.

Some participants will complete the 3-week intensive and enter the 25-week Ambassador Leadership phase of BTC — but that's not for everyone.

When you complete the Intensive Personal Development phase, you may choose to move on to employment, school, or other programs.
